Two DOCGs and three DOCs in the new regional consortium formed by the merging of the Consorzio Volontario Tutela Vini DOC Lison-Pramaggiore and the Consorzio Tutela Vini del Piave DOC.
The end of September 2011 marked the final step in a journey that saw producers from the Lison-Pramaggiore DOC and the Piave DOC regions decide to unite their forces to promote more vigorously wines of the Treviso-Venice-Pordenone region on both Italian and international markets.
The CONSORZIO VINI VENEZIA – CONSORTIUM OF VENETIAN WINES (full official name: Consorzio Volontario per la Tutela dei Vini delle Denominazioni di Origine Controllata "Venezia", "Lison-Pramaggiore", "Piave" e delle Denominazioni Di Origine Controllata e Garantita "Lison" e "Malanotte del Piave") oversees 44 DOC and 2 DOCG wines, bringing together more than 4000 producers from the provinces of Treviso, Venice and Pordenone (of the latter, its southern-most Lison-Pramaggiore DOC area is the part of the province involved).
A vast zone which, because of its natural characteristics and history dedicated to wine production,  is today one of the most important and advanced in Italy.
"This merger is an example of how in a period when everyone is talking about the need to unite forces, we have actually succeeded in putting words into action," says Antonio Bonotto, the representative of the Executive Committee of the Consortium of Venetian Wines for Piave DOC. "We analyzed the situation carefully and we realized that if we wanted to provide services and a network of a level suitable to producers, the area, public institutions and – last but not least – consumers, we had to rationalize our resources and structure to become an efficient and modern organization. The situation in the Lison-Pramaggiore area is like ours in terms of structure, denominations and history. Uniting forces can only contribute to enhancing and safeguarding our wine production."
"The decision to merge will render management of the two consortia more responsive and fluid," Mauro Stival affirms, representative of the Executive Committee of the Consortium of Venetian Wines for Lison-Pramaggiore DOC. "It was a decision taken by the consortia and producers themselves, born of practical necessity and aimed at upgrading the marketing and sale of wines from this area. Unified management will allow us to rationalize resources and unite our forces in a larger organization which will carry more clout in the market and on an institutional level."
A merger to lend greater importance to an area known for its wine-growing heritage. In fact, as president of the Consortium of Venetian Wines, Giorgio Piazza, says: “I believe this initiative to create a union is something truly new and innovative. In a period in which everyone is tending to split up, our two consortia chose a coordinated and shared management approach. I believe this will have positive spin-offs for an area that is not just about Prosecco, but which over the years has shown itself capable of producing white and red wines of great quality that has even resulted in the recognition of two DOCG wines – the Lison and Malanotte del Piave. These DOCGs will certainly prove to be economic drivers for this major, nationally-recognized wine-growing region."
The newly-created Consorzio Vini Venezia has its legal headquarters in Sestiere San Marco,  Venice, administrative office in Via Toniolo 12/b in Treviso and technical office in Piazza Libertà 6 in Pramaggiore.
